Azerbaijan has established mutual fruitful relationships with such regional economic organizations as Economic Cooperation Organization and Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. ECO, the key goal of which is to reinforce the regional cooperation, was founded in 1964 by Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. Azerbaijan’s relations with this organization started in 1992. This organization that brings together Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan is recognized by and cooperates with up to 30 international organizations, including EU, ASEAN, UNESCO, FAO, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, IOM.

The 12th Baku Summit of ECO held on October 16, 2012 once again emphasized Azerbaijan’s high-level participation in regional partnership policy, the great importance it attaches to multilateral regional relations within the Organization and bilateral ties with member states and its devotion to the cooperation. Addressing the Summit, the President of Azerbaijan mentioned the Armenian military aggression to Azerbaijan, calling the member states to recognize this tragedy. 

The Republic of Azerbaijan is a cofounder of Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation established in 1992. To strengthen the integration to Europe, Azerbaijan takes maximum benefit of this organization’s potential. Because of its favorable geographic position and rich hydrocarbon resources our republic has assumed the role of a coordinator in the Organization’s working groups for transport and energy. 

Joining the integration processes with member states of the Organization not in economic sphere only but also in such fields as science, education, culture, energy, transport, tourism, Azerbaijan partakes in the development and implementation of various projects.
