Bringing the world’s renowned statesmen, scientists, heads of organizations, representatives of scientific and cultural elite together to hold many-sided dialogues, exchange of views and discussions on the global challenges, Baku International Humanitarian Forum was organized in 2010 at the initiative of Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Dmitri Medvedev of Russia.
Baku hosted the 4th International Humanitarian Forum on October 2-3, 2014. The event brought up to 500 delegates from over 60 countries together.
Having hosted a number of international humanitarian events, Azerbaijan has demonstrated its ancient culture, civilization, and a tolerant environment for different nations and religions.
Addressing the Forum, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan, a country possessing a rich tradition of intercultural, inter-civilizational and inter-religious cooperation, is an ideal venue for events of this format.
Underlining multiculturalism is the key subject in the Forum, President Ilham Aliyev said discrimination in the world concerning this issue should end. He said multiculturalism has become a lifestyle in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 adjoining regions, the historically lands of Azerbaijan, are under the Armenian occupation, Azerbaijan is facing a humanitarian disaster, our cultural riches, historical and religious monuments are destroyed in the occupied lands. He said decisions and resolutions adopted in this sphere on the international level remain on paper only and are not fulfilled.
Informing delegates from different countries of these facts will once again raise an international awareness of painful disasters Azerbaijan is facing, encourage its promotion as a state intending for international cooperation in the globalizing world and increase the number of its partners.
Hitting the highlight in various countries, Baku International Forum once more confirmed the huge achievements the Republic of Azerbaijan has gained in different spheres, which created a democratic and free political environment in the country, and the policy pursued on the basis of mutual cooperation with other states.
