Building bilateral and multilateral relations with Asian countries is a key priority in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. But why is it important to the Republic of Azerbaijan?
1) 2 of G7 (China and Japan) are situated in Asia, the world’s greatest continent in territory and population;
2) Asia is very rich in natural resources;
3) World’s economically strong countries such as Japan, Taiwan, China, India are located here;
4) Asian countries have a strong influence today on the global policy;
5) Enjoying geopolitical and geostrategic importance, this continent has reached the high level of technologic development.
These and other factors brought to the establishment of bilateral and multilateral relations between these countries and Azerbaijan, after the latter regained independence. These relations started in 1991 and are successfully continued.
Also, developed states of Asia are interested in the position Azerbaijan is located in, in particular in Caspian basin, and just for this reason, attach special importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Visits President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid in the last years to Vietnam and China and meetings he held contributed to the development of political, economic, humanitarian relations of the country with the region.
Nowadays, China and Vietnam share the same vision on processes ongoing in the region and world. China’s backing Azerbaijan in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is of special importance. China has repeatedly declared its support for solution of this problem within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and inviolability of its frontiers. The Republic of Azerbaijan also takes a fair position on Taiwan, Tibet and “Eastern Turkistan” affairs.
