Formation of the new power centers in the international arena beginning from the late 20th century, development of intergovernmental relations in a different aspect brought to the creation of the new world order. South Caucasus and Azerbaijan, the most promising country in this region, are in the focus of huge attention of the global, regional and extraregional powers. Interests encounter here on the bilateral and multilateral levels.
As a leading member of the world order, Azerbaijan pursues the system of fast and complex actions enriched according to the requirements of the new era. Concerning this point, national leader Heydar Aliyev said: “To find our worthy place in the modern period of development, the universe has entered, we have to adapt to the present challenges, be able to resolve serious problems we face, achieve accomplishment of programmes conforming to our important duties.”
It is important to make a scientific analysis of the steps the Republic of Azerbaijan, a full member of international relations, takes to identify its place in the global policy, protect its national interests, carry out a quick policy in regional and international political processes.
Azerbaijan is situated in one of the most important, sensitive points of the globalizing world. Geopolitical position and present international status of the Republic of Azerbaijan demands it to play the key role in the implementation of regional projects.
Eurasia is of huge geopolitical importance since the global policy is determined in this region. The weight of Asia is not less than Europe, which features a significant part of the world’s political and economic power. Azerbaijan, a bridge between East and West, joins the new world order automatically, as it is impossible to be situated in this region and stay neutral while Eurasia is the central arena to the global policy. Also, Azerbaijan is neither Europe nor Asia completely from the geographic standpoint. Azerbaijan, a golden bridge between Europe and Asia, is a geopolitical space of vital importance for the states identifying the global policy.
