Importance of interparliamentary relations for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Great Britain

Interparliamentary relations play a special role for the development and enhancement of bilateral political relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. 

Azerbaijan Parliamentary Group functions within the British parliament. Chairperson of the Group, which comprises 20 MPs, is Christopher Pincher.  

Also, there is British Friendship Group at the Azerbaijani parliament. Presided by MP Chingiz Asadullayev, the Group is consisted of 13 MPs. 

Bilateral interparliamentary relations, economic, cultural and public aspects in Azerbaijan, social and domestic conditions of people left refugee and IDP by the conflict with Armenia are discussed in the meetings held as part of the interparliamentary relations, an important part of foreign policy. 

One of such significant meetings took place on May 29. Receiving a delegation led by a member of the House of Commons of the British Parliament and Chairman of the UK-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Christopher Pincher, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev informed the visiting delegation about Azerbaijan's position on the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Informing the delegates of reforms performed in the economic, public-political spheres in Azerbaijan, Vice Speaker of Milli Mejlis Valeh Elesgerov mentioned the successful activities of British companies in Azerbaijan and high-level cooperation between the two countries in oil-gas sector. Expressing delight of visiting Azerbaijan, Chairman of the UK-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Christopher Pincher said the major goal of the visit is making contribution to the development of political, economic, humanitarian and cultural ties. He stressed Azerbaijan’s rising influence in the region and world, talked about the works to be done to further enhance the bilateral relationships. 

Development of bilateral relations with such a state as Great Britain, which is able to contribute to activities of Azerbaijan in international and regional organizations such as UN, OSCE, NATO, EU, COE, which it is member of, render it all-round help to join the international security and economic integration system of the world states, various structures and institutions of Europe, within the parliament is of special importance for the future of our state.
