New world order and realities of Azerbaijan

Globalization brings national states and other subjects of international world together, strengthens mutual dependence among them. To some scientists, globalization is the formation of “new world order”. Sometimes new world order is assessed as a chaos of wars and confrontations, sometimes as a formation of unipolar world and ruling of the world from the one political center. Dependence of national states on international community and strong states is growing in the new world order. It does not mean that the role of all states in international processes weakens. On the contrary, the role of a group of states rises. Under the influence of this tendency, specific states and their unions declare their interests and goals on the world political arena more strictly. Geopolitical position of a state, the role it plays in a space is of special importance in the world order.

Regarding the place of our country in the world order and impacts it faces, we can say Azerbaijan is a quite open country integrating into the world. Building large foreign economic relations, taking active part in international organizations, contributing to intercultural dialogue, Azerbaijan is an actor of the new world order and stimulates this process in the framework of its opportunities.

To correctly define the course of development of processes ongoing in our modern world, where special weight of geopolitical and geoeconomic factors is dynamically developing, and conform them to national interests becomes much more important. Geographically, Azerbaijan is neither European nor Asian country completely. Azerbaijan, a golden bridge between Europe and Asia, is a geopolitical space of vital importance for the states identifying the global policy. Azerbaijan’s geographic position allows it to be a leading ruler in the world order. However, as an independent state it is time for Azerbaijan to have a comprehensive and long-term geostrategy in the new world order policy.
