Successful solution of socioeconomic and political problems the young Republic of Azerbaijan faced in the way towards formation of democratic state after gaining independence is closely related to its position on the international scene, mutual useful relations with foreign countries on the basis of the national state interests and rate of integration into the global community. In this sense, regulation of mutual relationships with states playing a leading role in the formation of global politics, also Western European countries with specific places in the international world for political and economic necessity is of huge importance for Azerbaijan to take its worthy place in the system of international relations.

Great Britain, one of the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, which determines the world politics, is among those leading states of Europe. In this respect, relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are a key priority in the foreign policy of our republic.

The political importance of relationship with Great Britain can shortly be commented as follows:

Great Britain is able to contribute to activities of Azerbaijan in international and regional organizations such as UN, OSCE, NATO, EU, COE, which it is member of, render it multilateral practical aid to join the international security and economic integration system of the world states, various structures and institutions of Europe;

Via its large diplomatic representations in foreign countries, Great Britain can play a significant role in the international promotion of Azerbaijan, formation of a positive opinion about its geopolitical and economic importance;

This state is able to have positive influence on the implementation of the OSCE principles and decisions related to the solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and Nagorno-Karabakh problem, establishment of peace and security in Caucasus;

Taking the vital importance of Azerbaijan sector of Caspian, rich in the world’s main energy resources, in the resolution of independent Azerbaijan’s necessary problems into consideration, cooperation with the state of England in this sphere can play the huge role of political and economic support.

Thus, construction and development of relations with Great Britain can be found very successful as the first step in the foreign policy of our republic.
