Azerbaijan’s hosting the first games in Europe, the motherland of the Olympic Games, is a huge achievement and the major factor here is related to the place of Azerbaijan in the international community. Implementation of the fruitful and purposeful foreign policy after becoming independent, development of bilateral and multilateral relations in the foreign policy increased confidence of other states in Azerbaijan.

The high-level sports infrastructure created in Azerbaijan for the realization of the Games indicates the sustainable economic development of the Republic of Azerbaijan. As a result of the long-term reconstruction works carried out in Baku the capital, bringing historical traditions and modernity together, became one of the nicest towns worldwide. Hosting numerous international events, world and European championships, modern Azerbaijan proved its multilateral development.

Azerbaijan is accepted in the world as a sports state and this is sourced from the successes our sportsmen gain. The high achievements obtained in European and world championships and Olympic Games are the factors to inspire the realization of the first European Games in Baku.

Participation of the head of state in the Sochi Winter Olympics, his working trip to Russia should be assessed also as a step contributing to gaining certain practical knowledge, realization of expectations in the preparation phase of the Games to be held in Azerbaijan.
