Our republic possesses rich natural resources and developed industrial spheres. However, implementation of actions to solve a number of ecologic problems, caused by difficulties Azerbaijan has faced for long years, was set as an important task after independence was gained. The necessity for the settlement to ecologic problems on the global level made Azerbaijan give domestic ecologic problems a universal character. To keep an ecologic balance, our republic has attended series of programmes and projects on local, regional and international levels, joined a number of organizations and conventions.

The ecologic policy is being formed in our country in the recent years. It is also explained with an approach to ecologic issues as a universal problem. Rapid development of all spheres of economy over the past years resulted in the rise of man-caused negative impact on the environment and overexploitation of natural resources. It all made the Republic of Azerbaijan take serious steps in this sphere.

In connection with fulfillment of “Integrated Action Plan on the improvement of ecologic situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2006-2010” approved by presidential order of September 28, 2006, many-sided actions were taken across the country to improve the environment. This demonstrates existence of international standards, modernization in Azerbaijan.

Since 2010 was declared the Year of Ecology as a logical conclusion of these works, large-scale works done in the country as part of the Integrated Action Plan will go on and achievements obtained will be continuous.
