To hold many-sided dialogues, exchange of views and discussions on the global issues, Baku International Humanitarian Forum held its 3rd event on October 31-November 1, 2013 at the initiative of Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Dmitri Medvedev of Russia. The Forum brought renowned statesmen, scientists, heads of organizations, representatives of the world’s scientific and cultural elite together.
The Forum was attended by 800 delegates from 70 countries and 5 international organizations, including 7 heads of state, 13 Nobel Prize winners, 107 eminent public and political figures and 7 honor professors.
The event discussed international humanitarian issues in the framework of ”round tables” on such themes as "The convergence of technologies and contours of the future: challenges of the 21st century", "National self-consciousness in the postmodern period", "Sustainable development and ecological civilization", "Actual problems of media in the globalizing information space", "Humanitarian aspects of economic development".
It all shows the huge attention independent Republic of Azerbaijan pays to international cooperation affairs. Having hosted a number of international humanitarian events, Azerbaijan has demonstrated its ancient culture, civilization, and a tolerant environment for different nations and religions.
Addressing the Forum, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev touched on the protection of Azerbaijan’s tangible cultural monuments, noting their restoration and basic repair is a state policy. Underlining multiculturalism is the key subject in the Forum, President Ilham Aliyev said discrimination in the world concerning this issue should end. He said multiculturalism has become a lifestyle in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed historically lands of Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 adjoining regions are under the Armenian occupation, Azerbaijan is facing a humanitarian disaster, our cultural riches, historical and religious monuments are destroyed in the occupied lands. He said decisions and resolutions adopted in this sphere on the international level remain on paper only and are not fulfilled.
Informing delegates from different countries of these facts will once again raise an international awareness of painful disasters Azerbaijan is facing, encourage its promotion as a state intending for international cooperation in the globalizing world and increase the number of its partners.
Hitting the highlight in various countries, Baku International Forum once more confirmed the huge achievements the Republic of Azerbaijan has gained in different spheres, which created a democratic and free political environment in the country, and the policy pursued on the basis of mutual cooperation with other states. Information posted on newspapers and news agencies of different countries on the 3rd Baku International Forum showed the importance of the Forum and the high image of Azerbaijan in the globe.
