Great leader Heydar Aliyev, who said “A nation is known, respected and differed among world nations for several features and the highest, the biggest of these features is culture.”, took care of the Azerbaijani culture too. The Azerbaijani people, which obtained independence after long years thanks to the wise policy of this genius personality, passed into a new historical conjuncture to promote their high culture, language, traditions in the world, change the state of Azerbaijan into one of the comprehensively developed states. Considering culture as the most valuable and biggest wealth to a nation, Heydar Aliyev played huge role in the promotion of the Azerbaijani culture in the international arena on the basis of the national statehood values.

The policy started just by Heydar Aliyev to promote and develop our culture is successfully continued today by the Foundation named after him. The Foundation, which was established in 2004 and led by Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan, MP, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, has accomplished numerous education, science, culture, healthcare and social projects.

One of the biggest merits of Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the sphere of the development of culture is publication of books, contributing to the international promotion of the Azerbaijani culture, in various languages. Publication of such books as music album “Singers of Garabagh”, which features the art of mugham of Azerbaijan, in Azerbaijani, Russian, English and French, series and collection of booklets “True Facts about Garabagh” to raise international awareness of the realities about Garabagh, the integral part of Azerbaijan, books “Heydar Aliyev Foundation – 2005-2006”, “Adjutant General to His Majesty. Epos about Hussein Khan Nakhchyvanski” that talks about life and military merits of our eminent compatriot, who was awarded 20 prizes of Russia and 9 foreign orders and commanded veteran and influential regiments of the Russian army, “Alley of Honors”, “War and Our Historical Cultural Monuments”, “War against Azerbaijan: Targeting Cultural Heritage”, which was published in Paris in English, was a significant tool to promote ancient culture, national and moral values of Azerbaijan in the world, as well to inform the international community of atrocities committed by Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, an inseparable land of Azerbaijan, occupation of our lands, destruction of our historical cultural monuments in these territories.

In addition, one of the most important steps Heydar Aliyev Foundation took towards the promotion of the Azerbaijani culture is organizing series of events in different countries. One of such events was held in Stuttgart, Germany on November 14. The event titled “Evening of Azerbaijan”, which featured performance of Azerbaijan’s renowned musicians, people’s artists and art exhibition “Germans in Azerbaijan”, deepened impressions of Germans on Azerbaijan, an ancient centre of culture, played a significant role in formation of a fair opinion.

All this prove that Heydar Aliyev Foundation that has given huge contributions to the development of the Azerbaijani culture from the very first day of its establishment, successfully continues the works national leader of Azerbaijanis all over the world, architect of the Azerbaijani statehood Heydar Aliyev started to revive culture, opens way to great achievements for the successful propaganda of our history and art.
