Successfully passing his own country through the period of global threats at the crossroad of the two centuries, Heydar Aliyev managed to protect the country’s national values, moral health of people, their self-confidence. The great leader was recognized in the world as one of the eminent politicians of the 20th and 21st centuries, today’s great political leader. Always speaking on behalf of the interests of Azerbaijan, the outstanding personality continued to defend Azerbaijan’s national statehood interests after being appointed to the high post in Moscow in 1982-1987.

National liberty struggle started in Azerbaijan in late the 80s of the last century and tragedies we lived urged us and our compatriots living abroad to come together around an only idea. Assuming the settlement of this responsible and necessary issue, outstanding statesman Heydar Aliyev achieved for short time the complete unity of the past and the present. He wisely identified the historical and strategic significance of bringing Azerbaijanis together around a unified idea for the future of Azerbaijan. The idea of Azerbaijanism Heydar Aliyev advanced at the time functioned as one of the cornerstones to the integration of Azerbaijan into the global community.

Existence of Azerbaijan as an independent state was guaranteed in June 1993, after the national leader returned to the power twice. Since then Azerbaijanism started changing into the symbol of national unity and ideology of an entire nation – Azerbaijanis across the world, all our compatriots having relation with motherland and being applied in the formation of an official state in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Having a sociopolitical significance, Azerbaijanism became an integral part of the construction of national state.

Azerbaijanism has become today an eternal ideology and a basis to the development of modern statehood. The ideology of Azerbaijanism Heydar Aliyev left as one of the key directions of the state of Azerbaijan and our future, a unique national wealth to Azerbaijanis all around the world is an ideological reason today to the statehood of Azerbaijan. As a state building an open civic society, modern Azerbaijan is a world synthesizing all religions, confessions, beliefs, Eastern and Western civilizations, other moral and universal values. The state and people of Azerbaijan are open to the whole world. We have moral and cultural ties with every point, every country in the globe. Under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev our state pays today a special attention to this factor in internal and foreign policy, confirms Azerbaijanism as a strategic line of state.
