Every state has strategic interests, which depend on the strategic line of the government. Strategic interests become vital in many cases. But it happens in different ways in different times. Vital interests of big states and small states differ. Sometimes strategic interests of big states can coincide with vital interests of small states, and our state has participated in this process for several times.   

Certainly, because of Azerbaijan’s geostrategic position and natural resources a number of states have scheduled plans against our state according to their own strategic interests. The difficult path Azerbaijan passed through in the first years of independence was the result of these plans. The country was shaken and driven into destruction since it was ruled by incompetent persons who were in conflicts among themselves. However the people of Azerbaijan demonstrated as usual wisdom this time too and managed to bring Heydar Aliyev – the right person able to save Azerbaijan of disasters – to the power. Establishing stability in the country and putting it in the path of development with his domestic and foreign policy, Heydar Aliyev earned a deep respect of the nation as a national leader and went down in the memories forever.

Today’s Azerbaijan is not Azerbaijan of the 90s. Azerbaijan is intensively developing, enjoying an international prestige and a status of a leader of the region.

All projects in the region are implemented with participation of Azerbaijan. New plants and factories are launched in Azerbaijan. The country has completely entered the path of development. GDP in the country has risen, poverty dropped. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has an undeniable role in these achievements.  The President, who promised to be a president of every citizen of Azerbaijan from the very first day of taking the office, kept his promise and gave every Azerbaijani citizen new opportunities by placing Azerbaijan in the present way of development. Today, citizens of the country are more active in the life of the country and do their best to make it even stronger.  

Our state has developed and we have strategic interests not in our region only but in other regions as well. Azerbaijan is one of the Europe’s energy security providers. Playing a big role in the energy sector of other countries our state is reinforcing its position in the world.  

The most important vital interest to Azerbaijan is the Karabakh problem and settling this problem peacefully it supports, as a leader state of the region, establishment of security in the region. As an occupant state Armenia is delaying the settlement of the problem. For this reason Armenia has been isolated from all projects in the region and situation in the country is tensioned. Armenia is in the chaos and the number of citizens leaving the country is rising monthly. The Armenian people demand the government to solve the Karabakh problem and see the development of the country in the resolution of the problem. The people want the problem to be settled soon.  

The Republic of Azerbaijan is in the path of development and every success obtained is the success of the people and their President Ilham Aliyev. The President, protecting Azerbaijan’s vital interests and taking decisive steps in this course, has won the nation’s confidence, love and respect and is known as the son of his people!
