Parliamentary elections get underway in Azerbaijan

Polling stations opened throughout Azerbaijan at 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, as the country`s citizens start casting ballots in the parliamentary elections.

The voting is conducted in 5,547 polling stations in 125 constituencies. All conditions are created in polling stations for nearly 5.2 million electors. Some 767 candidates are registered in 125 constituencies, which means more than six candidates per a constituency. The minimum number of candidates per a constituency is three, while the maximum number is 12. A total of 22 political parties are participating in the elections.

All polling stations are provided with ballots, indelible ink and special devises for reading it. A total of 5,344,431 ballots were distributed among polling stations. All constituencies are provided with computers and other necessary equipment.

Five reports will be released through "Sechkiler" Information Center at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00, 17.00, and 19.00 Baku time on the Election Day. The reports will be available at official websites of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Some 1000 polling stations are equipped with webcams to allow internet users watch the whole voting process online at CEC`s website.

Some 503 international observers are accredited for the elections, representing nearly 40 international organizations. A total of 66,000 local observers will monitor the voting. Excluding media representatives, the number of local observers per each constituency is 11. Several organizations will conduct exit polls, including four local, and two from the USA and France.

The elections are covered by 42 representatives from 27 international media outlets.
