President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the World Bank’s Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Laura Tuck.
The importance of holding the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank in Baku was emphasized during the meeting, and the parties noted high-level organization of the event.
It was noted that Azerbaijan and the World Bank enjoyed successful cooperation in the fields of road and transportation, water supply and sewerage, solid waste management and others. The sides noted that the World Bank and Azerishig Open Joint Stock Company have already started cooperation. A number of projects implemented in Azerbaijan, including “ASAN xidmət” service were praised. It was noted that work was being carried out to expand cooperation between the World Bank and “ASAN xidmət”.
The parties also discussed a broad range of issues, including the projects aimed at improving business environment in Azerbaijan, the country`s accomplishments in the field of economy despite global financial crisis, the government`s work to improve financial and budget system, accomplishments in the development of the non-oil sector and diversification of economy, reforms in the agricultural area, the determination of export markets given the growing economic potential of the country, execution of infrastructure projects, public sector, social security of the population, the country`s growing importance in terms of transit and transportation, social and educational matters, creation of new jobs, development of the regions.
The sides also exchanged views over the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Bank.
