TANAP demonstrates political will of Azerbaijani, Turkish authorities – US

Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) demonstrates the political commitment of the authorities of Azerbaijan and Turkey on the issue of implementation of such projects, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Amos Hochstein said in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.

He said that TANAP is an obvious example of diversification of supplies of energy resources.and noted the importance of the TANAP project implementation.

Implementing the project TANAP jointly with Azerbaijan, Turkey once again proved that it is a part of Europe, Hochstein said.

Speaking of “the Turkish Stream,” deputy assistant secretary said that it is more a political project than an energy one.

TANAP envisages the transportation of gas of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field from the Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey.

TANAP’s initial capacity is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest of the volume to Europe.

Turkey will obtain gas in 2018, and after the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is constructed the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.
