President Ilham Aliyev visited the Saint Sofia Church

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has visited The Saint Sofia Church as part of his official trip to the Republic of Bulgaria.

Located in the center of Sofia, the cathedral is the oldest church in Bulgaria.

The first church was built here in 311-313 years. Subsequently, with the support of the Emperor Constantine the cathedral was expanded. In 537, the Emperor Justinian the Great restored the affected cathedral. In the time of the Ottoman rule it was turned into a mosque for some time. In the 8th century people began to call the city “Sophia” by its name and in the second half of the 14th century the city became officially known as "Sophia" in the charters of the Bulgarian kings.

President Ilham Aliyev signed the guest book of the cathedral.
