Baku World Challenge-2014 winners announced

The winners of the third international racing tournament the Baku World Challenge-2014 was announced Nov. 2.

The Belgian Audi Club Team WRT, represented by the drivers Cesar Ramos and Laurens Vanthoor, came in first in the competition.

They were followed by the British team Beechdean AMR, represented by the drivers Jonathan Adam and Andy Soucek. The third place was won by the German team Phoenix Racing, represented by the drivers Niki Mayr-Melnhof and Markus Winkelhock.

The best engineers and semiprofessional tournament participants were awarded as well.

The main prize for the team winning the first place is 100,000 euros, the holder of the second place gets 50,000 euros, and the winner of the third place is awarded 25,000 euros.

The Baku World Challenge-2014, which is the final round of the Blancpain Sprint Series, was organized by the company AzTexnika with assistance of Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Ministry and Azerbaijan Automobile Federation.

The drivers competed on a completely new, specially designed 4-kilometer long street circuit, passing the famous Baku Crystal Hall and the State Flag Square.

Some 59 drivers with 30 cars from 17 teams took part in the tournament.

The following cars competed in the event: BMW Z4, Audi R8LMS Ultra, Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini LFII, Porsche 997 GT3, Aston Martin Vantage GT3, and Corvette Z06 G.

The tournament was broadcasted live on the Eurosport TV channel in European, Middle East countries, as well as in Australia, Asia, America and Africa.
