SOCAR to complete construction of compressor station in Caspian Sea soon

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is completing the construction of a compressor station for gas-lift oil production in the shallow part of the Guneshli field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The capacity of the new station that will be located at a depth of 87 meters, will be equal to three million cubic meters per day, SOCAR said.

The company said the construction and installation work is in its late stage and will be completed soon.

Guneshli field plays an important role in the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan. The shallow part of the field is developed by SOCAR independently, while the deep part is developed as part of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block (together with foreign partners).

SOCAR plans to drill 20 new wells to increase oil and gas production in the shallow part of the Guneshli field. Existing wells at this field are being repaired, besides drilling the new ones.

SOCAR produced over 8.31 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan's onshore and offshore fields in 2013, versus 8.24 million tonnes in 2012.
