Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has received NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told on July 8.
Mammadyarov stressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the cooperation with NATO and added that the country actively participates in the Individual Partnership Action Plan and in the planning and review process.
He underscored that the cooperation with NATO contributes to the process of reforming Azerbaijan's armed forces and use of modern standards in the army.
Appathurai, for his part, pointed out that the alliance praises Azerbaijan's participation in the NATO operation in Afghanistan and its contribution to the international security.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the prospects for development of partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO and on the topical issues of the agenda of the upcoming NATO summit in Wales.
