European rhythmic gymnastics championships held in Baku at very important time

The 30th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships, which will kick off tomorrow, has been organized at a significant time - two years after London Olympics and two years prior to the Rio Olympics, according to Georges Guelzec, European Union of Gymnastics President.

Guelzec made the remarks on June 12 at a press conference on the 30th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships which is scheduled to be held in Baku.

"This is already the third time when European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship is organized in Baku. The events hosted by our Azerbaijani friends in 2007 and 2009 were extremely successful and the organization was perfect," Guelzec said.

"We are very pleased to return to Baku, as we know that the Gymnastics Federation of Azerbaijan, and host city of Baku are highly competent and professional," he stressed.

Guelzec went on to add that these championships also have special significance thanks to the First European Games, also to be held in 2015 in Baku.

Great conditions have been created for the athletes, the Olympic Village and the National Gymnastic Arena have also been organized and prepared at the highest level, Guelzec said.

He also thanked Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation, the local organizing committee, as well as, all those who volunteered.

The 30th Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku on June 13-15. Some 258 gymnasts from 33 countries will compete for nine sets of awards.
