National leader Heydar Aliyev, who preserved national and moral values, historical identity of the nation and passed to future generations, became, from the very first day of taking power, the great protector of science, education, national and moral values. Just on the basis of these principles and to immortalize Heydar Aliyev’s memory, study his rich heritage, also suggest his national statehood ideas to new generations the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was instituted on May 10, 2004 after demise of the Great Leader. Heydar Aliyev Foundation supports projects in the spheres of education, culture, health, science, technology, ecology and sports, operates in the country and on the international level. Taking huge care of Azerbaijani healthcare, education, culture and sports, the Foundation shows devotion to the National Leader’s ideals. The Foundation’s social and humanitarian projects have caught attention of other states to our country. Mehriban Aliyeva, a President of the Foundation, First Lady of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, MP, has given great contributions to all our successes in all fields, accomplishment of these projects, propaganda of Azerbaijani realities worldwide.  

Performing variety of projects, the Foundation assists to Azerbaijan’s progress, development of culture and study of history. The influential newspapers and magazines of the world highlight the projects accomplished by the Foundation, activities of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva. From the very first day of establishment, the Foundation has achieved successes of local and international importance. The goal is to guarantee the peace in the globalizing world via finding the common points of different cultures. Azerbaijan is a place where different cultures, religions, values, Eastern and Western impacts live together in peace. The projects the Foundation has implemented abroad include allocation of 1,5 million euro to the restoration of a church in Strasbourg, a memorandum signed with the Vatican on the restoration of some monuments in Rome.

The Golden Heart Award, the WHO Ihsan Dogramaci Family Health Foundation Prize, the Ruby Cross Order of Philanthropists of the Century International Charity Foundation, the title of the Great Woman of the 21st century, the UNESCO Mozart Gold Medal, the Gold Medal of the Crans Montana Forum presented to Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, who was the first person to receive the memorial medal for contribution to creation of safer world instituted in 2011 by INTERPOL, is the value set on the international level to the hard work accomplished for years. 

The Khojaly genocide is yearly marked in more than 100 points around the world due to support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Providing the world with correct information on the history of Karabakh, beginning of the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Khojaly genocide, consequences of the Armenian aggression, action of Armenian terrorist organizations against our country is a priority in the Foundation’s action. “Karabakh realities”, “War against Azerbaijan: Targeting the cultural heritage” and other publications in varied languages show the special attention to this sphere. 

Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s multilateral actions are highly appreciated not in Azerbaijan only but abroad as well. Trying to consolidate the pure ideals of the national leader, based on mercy, nobility and high humanism, in the public consciousness, confidently implementing series of significant projects for the future of the nation, the Foundation, which has become the place of hope and refuge to millions, has proved that it is able to decently fulfil its tasks.
