Today, formula of a leader required for Azerbaijan, which has a successful political and economic development, centuries-old rich historical traditions, tolerant atmosphere for common life of different nations, is very necessary. Leader is a person functioning as a major guarantor for development of society, protecting state, ensuring national unity and defending place and position of state in the international arena.   

Globalizing world’s need for personalities with leadership qualities, for leaders of a new type is growing. What does not change is the biggest capital of leader – trust of nation. A leader elected, wanted by people acts as a herald of national interest, safeguards national unity. Only a person embodying these qualities can reach the level of leader. Leader should be an ideologist, since the basis of statehood is political idea, ideology. With its idea, ideological concept, a leader can influence a public mind, form an opinion of itself and a leader, not capable to present it, cannot take nation and state forward, even on the basis of political technology. Image of today’s leader should be comprised of political technologies and well-established ideological concept.
   
I would suggest such a formula for contemporary leader able to fulfill desires and ideals: “leader=intellect+creativity+pragmatism+rationality”. Leader should assess requirements of time, make correct conclusions, direct its activity not to the present time only but also to the future, be sincere, be able to form public opinion, demonstrate a specific activity, not advance slogans of no influence, make quick and firm decisions, guarantee prosperous and safe life of people. Taking requirements of time into consideration, making correct decisions, leader should go ahead in this course. Solution of all these issues bases upon personal qualities, belief and experience of leader.

Achievements the Republic of Azerbaijan gained for the past years in the global politics are connected to the name of President Ilham Aliyev, who has confirmed himself as a leader of new type. With his many-sided activity as a leader, he proved to be able to carry out this mission. During leadership of Ilham Aliyev, formation of democratic state in Azerbaijan was successfully continued, economic, political and social reforms were accomplished in the same time.    
 
Leader should also follow the principle of succession. Leader is not able to completely change society, even if innovation is required. To win confidence of nation, confirm correctness of its activity, leader needs to prove its adherence to the principle of succession. This principle is obviously verified in multilateral activities of Ilham Aliyev.  

In conclusion, I would like to mention that existence of a society without a leader is uncertain. Today, a sample of leader necessary for Azerbaijani society has been confirmed in the personality of Ilham Aliyev. He has proven it with his activities, mind and practicality. People’s confidence in him is an obvious sample of this confirmation.
